Science North invited Cindy Crowe and Jazmin Romaniuk to do a presentation at our staff retreat in order to help our workforce gain a better understanding of indigenous worldview. They did excellent presentations and had effective dialogue with our staff on this topic. Cindy and Jazmin’s style of communication was very engaging and open, and we truly appreciated their insights and sharing of indigenous history, customs and worldview. This has been very beneficial for members of our organization. Miigwetch!

Thunder Bay Public Library
The staff at Thunder Bay Public Library benefited from the cultural sensitivity training provided by the Blue Sky Community Healing Centre. This training helped to raise staff awareness of the cultural traditions of our local indigenous communities and their needs. This training informed the Thunder Bay Public Library Strategic Plan 2014 – 2018, particularly in regard to promoting diversity and social inclusion, and fostering community well-being and personal growth.

Canadian Mental Health Association
Canadian Mental Health Association Thunder Bay Branch hosted a Cultural Awareness Training Workshop in the fall of 2012 inviting Cindy Crowe to share her knowledge, experience and personal understanding of the indigenous world view. Three sessions were offered to fifty-one staff and management over a three-week period. Many expressed that they left with a greater understanding and appreciation of the historical challenges and current traditions of the aboriginal people of this region. Comments from evaluations included: “The information was very informative with good teachings that are applicable to the clients served. The discussions evoked a lot of self-reflection. The session offered an open and accepting atmosphere which was a safe place to think and speak freely about these complicated issues. I really like the traditional teachings and ceremony, it created an open and accepting atmosphere. The bannock and cedar tea were a nice touch”. Cindy demonstrates a commitment to raise awareness of the indigenous world view and her gifts of presence, tradition, community spirit, and compassion all came through in her presentation.
